VW CADDY ( 01/11/2003 – 31/01/2013) DEFECT: On Caddy vehicles of a limited production period Volkswagen AG has established that on vehicles of certain model years the attachment of the ball pin where the tailgate gas strut is mounted on the body can loosen and in the most unfavourable case tear off. If such damage occurs the Tailgate can drop down as one tailgate gas strut alone cannot keep it open. There is a risk of injury.
Remedy
On the affected vehicles a new ball pin with a washer will be fitted . On Caddys produced from November 2003-July 2008 the welded nut inside the D pillar can loosen and fall off when replacing the pin. In these instances two support brackets with blind rivets must be fitted.
