JAGUAR XJ8 ( 01/10/1997 – 30/06/2000) DEFECT: The power steering rack to oil cooler pipe may chafe on the alternator cable terminal. This could cause an electrical short circuit and risk of fire in the facia trim above the driver’s footwell also an oil leak and loss of power assistance to the steering.
Remedy
Check the proximity of the power steering pipe to the alternator terminal. Cable tie the oil pipe clear of the alternator where appropriate replace any damaged pipes and alternator components. Fit a new alternator where found necessary.
