CADILLAC CORVETTE ( 01/10/1997 – 01/10/2004) DEFECT: The vehicle uses an Electronic Column Lock (ECL) to prevent the steering wheel being turned when the ignition key is removed. It has been identified that the following two conditions could prevent the correct operation of the steering lock. 1.If the Power-train Control module suffers low voltage or an interruption whilst the engine is being cranked the vehicle can be driven with the steering locked. 2. During quick cranking the ECL lock pins may not fully withdraw which will result in either a noise or rattle or if there is insufficient clearance the steering wheel will not turn. If one of these conditions occurs directional control will be affected.
